Sanskrit Theatre Yatras and Cultural Programmes

The history of Sanskrit theatre begins from the vedic times and one can observe its various forms till today. The theatre persons of the state of Uttaranchal made contributions in this process as well. If it can be proved that the 21 st century theatre treatise ‘Nrityadhyaya' has been written by a writer from Uttaranchal, then it will be the first of its kind by an Uttaranchal theatre person. It can be gauged that there must have been many others and the 18 th century play ‘Sabha Bhushanam' is available as testimony. Plays were developed in the 20 th century as well, the prominent ones being ‘Navya Bharat Natakam', ‘Naranarayanabhyudaya Natakam', ‘Ajeya Bharatam' etc. Play wrights continue to write plays in the present times as well.

Plans have to put in place to take these plays to the common people. These plans will then have to be executed property.

There are many theatre groups and organizations in Uttaranchal which stage plays inside and outside the state but are unable to work property due to lack of resources. A movement have to begin to develop these plays and revive the tradition.

-The Academy has to put in place a committee under whose vigilance this work can go on.

-Theatre groups may be invited through advertisements in newspaper.

-Information should be given in the advertisements that these plays will have to be staged throughout Uttaranchal . One or two theatre groups may be selected and should work under the watchful eyes of the committee. The committee will also hold the right to suggest the plays to be staged.

-The chosen theatre group will be given assistance in 2 installments – before and after a successful staging.

-The plays must be staged in at least 13 districts once and this should be fixed and declared in advance.

-There will be many gains from this process. Those who do not know about Sanskrit will be attracted towards it and it will serve to develop an interest in the language.

-People from all levels will be able to associate themselves with the work of the Academy adding to its growth.

Instruction in the fields of Astrology and Karma-Kand

Uttaranchal has been a centre of astrology and karma-kand since time immemorial. Many experts of these fields have lived in this area during the ancient times. It can be gauged from various ancient documents that Sanskrit was the state language during the Katyuri dynasty. These have been many scholars in this field between 16 th and 19 th centuries – Astrologer Bharat, Mathematician Lakshmipati (Almora), Pt. Hari Datt Nautiyal (Shrinagar), Leelanand Bahuguna, Baswanand Bahugama and Mahidhar Dangwal, Devidatt Joshi (Someshwar), Kriparam Joshi, Mandev Joshi, Ramdatt Joshi, Vishnudatt & Gunanand (Pithoragarh), Mukundram Badhtwal (Pauri), Nityanand Parvatiya (Almora), Nilamber pant, Trilochan pant, Namdev pant, Krishna pant (Almora), Lakshmidhar Joshi (Devprayag), Chakradhar Joshi, Maheshchandra Sharma (Garhwal) etc. However, this great tradition is slowly slipping away into oblivion. It is with this in mind that an employment scheme will be started so that this great tradition can be revived once again.
